Indian Captive: The Story of Mary Jemison

This is my favorite "Indian" book! The true story of young Mary Jemison is retold in historical fiction form that will engage your children. I read my copy aloud to the whole family and loved it! Poor Mary was captured in a raid and drug over mountains on an arduous journey. There she was raised amongst the Seneca Indians, eventually raising a large family of Indian children of her own. The research has been meticulous, and Indian life, handiwork, and customs are vividly portrayed. Black-and-white drawings add to the enjoyment. Newbery Honor book. Paperback, 298 pages, for ages 11 and up.
