Whether you choose to teach your children or take them to lessons, you'll want Alfred books. I like these piano books better than any others, as they are so easy to use and provide such a wonderful foundation of music studies. Children are naturally drawn to the colorful and whimsical illustrations and happy melodies. Each level will take you step-by-step through music theory, note reading, finger exercises, and performance pieces. I found these books delightful to teach my children from (and learn along with them!). It feels like an "instant" course since all the teacher preparation work is done for you and the included CD enables you to listen to the finished song and play the rhythm correctly! My children really enjoy them! Level 1A includes 4 books plus the Flash Cards in a handy Zipper Portfolio: Theory, Lesson, Performance, and the At-Home book. Each book coordinates lesson by lesson with the other 3 books to give your child complete music training. The At-Home book provides teaching tips, assignment pages, lesson-by-lesson "to do's" and more. You can buy an entire year's level of piano books for less than a month's worth of private lessons. This is what my children learned on, and it is a fabulous program! Voted #1 by homeschoolers!
