Sprouting Lid

Screw this plastic sprouting lid onto a wide-mouth jar to make your own sprouter.

Sprouts--How to Grow

Soak your sprouting seeds in a glass or jar of water for about 8 hours, or overnight. The soaking liquid is nutrient-rich and can be added to soup or used to water plants.

If using a sprouting jar with a sprouting lid in place, simply hold the jar under the faucet, allowing tepid water to go through the lid and fill the jar. Shake gently and turn jar upside down to drain. Store jar upside down on an angle, to ensure the water does not pool around seeds. Setting the jar in the dish drain is a convenient spot. Rinse and drain sprouts 2-3 times per day. It will take 3-7 days for sprouts to mature, depending on the seed variety and temperature. As seeds sprout, taste test to determine the stage that you like them. You may use them while in the growth stages or grow to maturity and store in the refrigerator in a plastic bag. Generally, sprouts can be stored in a refrigerator for 1-2 weeks with frequent water rinses.
