"All Set for Preschool" Complete Curriculum

Do you have a 3 or 4 year old that is itching to "do school too?!" This kit will keep your little one happy and busily learning! Starting with developing fine motor skills and power of perception that will set the foundation for reading, and progressing through simple counting, ABC's, cutting and tracing, your preschooler will have fun and learn! This kit will "buy" you some free hours daily to homeschool your older children—while your young one is busy and learning!

Lauri Perception Puzzle: Kids
Little ones need practice in perceiving slight differences so they will be prepared for reading. My 2- to 5-year-olds have preferred these puzzles! Each piece looks much like the other, holding their interest well. At 2 years, my children enjoyed fitting in the pieces with my help. At 5, they still found it challenging enough to engage them. Made from durable, brightly colored crepe foam rubber, these puzzles are a tactile delight. It isn't hard to nudge the flexible pieces into place. Lauri puzzles will never be obsolete because of lost pieces—they have a replacement service and guarantee! I consider these 8 x 11" puzzles to be a very worthwhile investment for pre-readers.

1 to 10 Dot to Dot
Join the dots in large, clear numerical sequence from 1 to 10 to reveal the picture. Color picture to complete!

Math Play
Start your little ones on the right track with math play! Through fun activities and games, your young one will become confident with numbers and math concepts. Includes shape hopscotch, sew-up numbers, card games, counting rhymes, and more. Paperback, black and white drawings, 142 pages for ages 2 to 6 years.

My First Book of Tracing
Here are the ideal activity pages on excellent quality paper with colorful graphics. Developed by an Asian company to give kids the cutting edge with an early start in education and skills. These thick workbooks are a preschooler's or kindergartner's mother's dream-come-true! One page is enough to keep your preschooler busily working and happy for 15-20 minutes—a bargain indeed! Kids love them, and you'll be amazed at the fine motor skill development you will see! This beginning-level book provides children with opportunities to learn to manipulate a pencil skillfully. Simple and fun drawing exercises start with vertical straight lines, and then gradually shift to more difficult lines, such as curves, zigzags, and diagonal lines, providing children with an ideal preparation for learning to write letters and numbers. Ages 2-4 years. 80 pages, 8 1/2" x 11" on high quality paper.

My Book of Easy Mazes
After you finish My Book of Tracing, progress onto this second book offering more advanced tracing exercises. Tracing their way through these colorful mazes will help children build more confidence in their fine motor skills, thereby preparing them to begin writing.

My First Book of Cutting
I was thrilled to discover this book, because it is exactly what I had been hand-drawing in my homeschool for my preschoolers to help them practice manual dexterity through using scissors. Little ones will gradually learn how to control scissors through step-by-step projects that advance from easy shapes to more complex cutting patterns. Excellent prep for handwriting, plus wonderful fun for preschoolers!

Early Learning Workbooks Set
I love these delightful Christian workbooks for the variety of activities they provide for beginning writer/readers and their nice illustrations and crisp white paper (not the normal newsprint workbook paper). Brief parent instructions are included in the back of each book to help you lead your little one along in cutting, coloring, pasting, following directions, and working neatly. Set of 6 books. Adventures with Books teaches colors and shapes through fun activities. Bible Pictures has realistic line drawings of Bible stories—a special coloring book. Each page has a title describing the Bible story plus the scripture verse numbers. Counting with Numbers helps little ones learn numbers 1-10. In Do it Carefully, tracing lines progresses into writing the letters and learning the sounds of the alphabet letters. Everywhere We Go includes colors, counting 1 to 10, letter writing, and learning alphabet sounds. Finding the Answers teaches the use of thinking skills such as identifying sequence and making comparisons, along with teaching rhyming words.

I Love America Part 1: Book + Activity CD + Music CD
New Revised Edition! A favorite with homeschool families! I love this fun introduction to American History for young ones. It takes so little preparation on my part and the kids thoroughly enjoy the lessons. I Love America contains a monthly theme lesson: "Columbus and the discovery of America", "Why I Like Being an American", "Washington and Valley Forge", "Ben Franklin", "Thomas Jefferson", "Pocahontas", etc. complete with illustrated stories, art activities, songs, poems, and more. We especially enjoyed learning the Preamble to the Constitution in sign language. There is also a coloring page for each of the 50 states that teaches the state's bird, flower, tree, chief product, and other information. 300 pages, spiral bound, for ages 4 to 10 years. Comes with 2 CDs: Activity and Music. Activity CD has games, activities, and sheet music of songs on the Music Cd. Music CD has songs that correspond to I Love America Book 1 and 2.

Big Book of Play and Find Out Science Projects
Introduce your children to the fun of science with this happy book by bestselling author Janice Van Cleave. Contains 50 simple, fun experiments each in physical science, nature, bugs and human body (200 total experiments). Each easy experiment includes drawings, a list of easy around-the-house materials and simple instructions. Find out why your hair doesn't hurt when it gets cut, why your fingertips have ridges, why you can see your breath when it is cold, and more. A good science curriculum for young ones! Paperback, 211 pages, for children 4 to 7 years old.

"All Set for 7th Grade" Complete Curriculum

7th grade is one of my favorite years to teach, because children are leaving childhood and becoming reasoning teenagers, and it is so fun to discuss things with them! I also love 7th grade because it is when we do our US History course, which is my favorite! Using Joy Hakim's award-winning series, The History of US, along with award-winning historical fiction novels set in the time periods, this course forms a foundation for patriotic American adult life. I like to assign writing assignments on the themes of our history and novel study, to make a very exciting year!

Wordsmith
Wordsmith is designed to get students excited about writing, and it certainly accomplished that for us! Each lesson explains itself to the student, and then step-by-step leads him through the lesson with a write-in-the-blank workbook. Topics include: "So You Think You Hate Writing", word games using parts of speech, sentence structure, figures of speech, describing a person, narrative, writing dialogue, point of view, how to proofread, etc. The exercises are great for reluctant writers with enough fun to keep them going. Children must know some basic grammar (noun, verb, adjective, etc.) before using this course. Optional Teachers Manual briefly explains daily lesson information and assignments and gives possible answers, but is not essential. Paperback, 90 pages, ages 12 and up.

Vocabulary Cartoons, Book 1
Vocabulary Cartoons has revolutionized learning vocabulary words in my homeschool! Everybody likes cartoon drawings, so there isn't any coaxing to get kids going on this book. Besides a humorous visual cartoon, there is an often silly "sound-alike" clue. There are also several sentences using the word so you get the feel of it. Plus, an easy pronunciation guide. I am learning right along with my kids, and find myself relying on the memory clues. For example, the word "capacious" means roomy and spacious. I learned the word while quizzing my kids on Vocabulary Cartoons, and I later encountered it in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, describing a room in a mansion. Instantly I saw in my mind's eye the drawing of a skinny boy with a huge cap on, a cap that was spacious. A capacious cap!

Vocabulary words are taken from the SAT test, which gives me a measure of confidence that they are words worth knowing. Each unit is divided into 10 words, with a full page for each word. The words in each lesson are grouped in a logical way, such as all the words with the same prefix . . . more.

Basic Winston Grammar
Winston Grammar is great for children who do best using a hands-on format. Colored clue cards are used to lay out each sentence, "diagramming" parts of speech in a very tangible way. Parts of speech are taught beginning with "articles," "nouns," and "verbs" and moving gradually into advanced English, quite enough for anyone entering college. The teacher explains the part of speech that is being focused on and gives some sentences for the children to practice on, laying their parts of speech cards out in order. After this hands-on workout, the children may do the workbook page that reinforces the lesson in writing. Teacher's edition (included) contains complete, simple instructions for teacher, and workbook answers. I use this in our homeschool, for my children aged 8 through 15, and find in to be thorough and fun! We play it like a game and everyone enjoys it. My first choice in grammar!

Apologia General Science Text + Solutions Manual
General Science is for the Jr. High years and introduces the scientific method, experiments, simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, biology, human anatomy, and physiology. Lab experiments use just household items. Even if you don't feel confident in teaching science to your children, you will find the help you need in these books designed especially for homeschoolers. Written by a former university professor who is Christian, these textbooks are presented in conversational style, as if the author is having a good talk with the reader. Concepts are easy to understand, and good experiments can easily be performed at home. Each course comes as a 2-book set: the hardcover textbook and a paperback solutions/test manual. These are the bestselling science books among homeschoolers! Companion CD available (sold separately). Each course has 12-16 modules, which can be paced for 2 weeks each, for a complete school years study. The curriculum is backed by free question/answer support in case you need tutoring. Current 2nd edition.

Saxon Math 87: Complete Homeschool Kit
I wish all curriculum choices were as easy as this! Saxon has proven to have the best mathematics text available today. Every school in the U.S. that has used them has raised college board scores 20% and has tripled Calculus enrollment, has doubled Physics enrollment and has reduced the number of kids on the slow track by over 50%. The reason? Normal math books introduce a new concept with each chapter, then drop that topic as the next chapter goes on to something new. This week, it's multiplication; next week it is fractions, and I can't remember multiplication! In Saxon books, the concepts are practiced daily, over and over, until they are fully automatic and math becomes easier and more enjoyable.
Look at the last digit to determine the grade: Math 5/4 is for 4th graders, Math 6/5 for 5th graders, and Math 7/6 for 6th graders. Now you can choose a customized program for your student! Math 8/7 is the culmination of Saxon Homeschool Math for middle grades, reviewing arithmetic calculation, measurements, basic geometry, and other foundational concepts and skills. Math 8/7 gets a child ready for Pre-Algebra with extensive pre-algebra exercises. Current 3rd edition. . . . more.

D.I.V.E. CD for Saxon 87
Imagine your homeschool without Mom having to be the math teacher! Imagine your children going quietly to the computer with their Saxon math book and having a gentle, soft spoken male tutor explain the lesson's concept and working the practice problems on the chalkboard just for them. Imagine no more frustration and tears because things are so very well explained, and they can be re-explained as many times as needed in the same patient tone of voice! You don't have to imagine any longer, because this is exactly what D.I.V.E. Into Math has done for my homeschool! Hurrah! D.I.V.E. means "Digital Interactive Video Education," and what your student will see is the computer screen transformed into a chalkboard and the teacher's chalk writing appearing as he talks and works the problems. I balked at spending $50 to explain an already pricey math book, until I used this fabulous program. Now I say: "It is worth every penny!" I haven't taught math in my homeschool for 2 years now and my children are doing better in math than they ever have before! Note: you will need the matching Saxon textbook (of the same edition) to use this program. Each level Includes one or two CD-ROMS teaching every lesson in the book! This DIVE CD plays on Mac and Windows 98 and higher operating systems, including Vista. Current 3rd edition.

A History of US: Volumes 1-5 + Volume 11 (Sourcebook)
Who doesn't love a good story? These unique books will make a history-lover out of you and your children! I read them just for fun. Author Joy Hakim was distressed when her 7th grade daughter thought public school history was dull, and she set out to make it interesting for her. This incredible award-winning series is the result! Masterful storyteller, Joy, weaves the exciting adventures that make up the history of our nation so that they read like a novel. You wont find these unique stories and photos elsewhere. I cant imagine a college course containing anything more. I initially thought these books were too much of an investment for history, but once I started reading, I was hooked. They are definitely worth the money. (Not written from a Christian perspective, so you will find some cave man type info in the first book, and bits of Woman's Lib throughout.) Paperback books, color photos, approximately 200 pages each, for ages 11 to adult. Riveting reading your children are going to love American History! Current 3rd Edition.

These books are to be used along with A History of US, Books 6-11. Buy the set and you'll read and re-read them over your years of homeschooling. Many are Newbury Award Winners. Exciting, wonderful reads!

Uncle Tom's Cabin
I love this book! I'd like to rename it: How to Be a Christian. Lincoln claimed that Harriett Beecher Stowe's story was responsible for starting the Civil War. Although it was written 150 years ago, the issues of good and evil, kindness and cruelty, faithfulness or despair they are all still just as vital. Most of all, this book makes one know that the color of the skin has nothing to do with the condition of the heart. The classic story of slavery. Paperback, 384 pages.

Little Women
One of the best-loved stories of all time! Sweet family life is depicted so warmly! In picturesque nineteenth-century New England, tomboyish Jo, beautiful Meg, fragile Beth, and romantic Amy come of age while their father is off to war. Very sweet! Paperback, unabridged.

Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Here's the classic story of Tom Sawyer and his adventures in early America on the Mississippi River. A wonderful book that we have loved! Ages 9-12. Paperback and unabridged, 282 pages.

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn + Study Guide
Here's the ideal tool for teaching great literature in your home! Study Edition has the complete unabridged work of literature followed by a comprehensive Study Guide which includes chapter-by-chapter summaries, explanations and discussions of the plot, question-and-answer sections, author biography, analytical paper topics, list of characters, bibliography, and more. When teaching, I use the chapter summary in the Study Guide section for a quick overview and reminder of the chapter's contents, and then lead a discussion using the thought provoking questions and plot discussions. Includes the unabridged text of Twain's classic novel plus a complete study guide. 336 pgs.

Understood Betsy
This delightful old book is not only wonderful to read but really sets one to pondering the issue of free choice and how children (and all people) thrive when they are able to govern their own selves. In fact, as I was reading it I decided right then and there to teach my daughter Louisa to use the stove (with permission), and watched her great satisfaction in being self-reliant! Set in the early 1900s, 9-year-old Betsy is a pampered and overprotected fragile little girl who is afraid of her own shadow until a turn of events proves to her that she is quite capable. Understood Betsy is one of those dear books that you just can't put down and want to go on forever! Paperback, 214 pages, for reading age 11 and up, or marvelous read aloud for the whole family. Unabridged.

Call of the Wild
Stolen from his family, a dog named Buck must quickly learn the harsh law of survival among the men and dogs of the gold-crazed Alaskan wilderness. Unabridged, 128 pages. Ages 9 to adult.

Little Britches
Ralph Moody was eight years old in 1906 when his family moved from New Hampshire to a Colorado ranch. Through his eyes we experience the pleasures and perils of ranching there early in the twentieth century. Auctions and roundups, family picnics, irrigation wars, tornadoes and wind storms give authentic color to Little Britches. So do adventures, wonderfully told, that equip Ralph to take his father's place when it becomes necessary. Paperback and unabridged, 260 pages.

To Kill A Mockingbird
A classic Pulitzer Prize winner and the most widely read book in America at one time, this book is so, so good and thought-provoking! The Deep South in the 1930's was a place of raw prejudice. Atticus Finch, a lawyer with integrity, stands alone in upholding justice. This story is told through the eyes of Attitcus' children, and is full of warmth and humor, while dealing with a very serious issue. Atticus Finch is a hero that I want my children to know! An excellent story! Paperback and unabridged, 281 pages.

Journey to America
It was 1938, and something terrible was happening in Germany. Suddenly, there were more and more restrictions for the Jews: yellow stars they had to wear, schools they could not attend, things they were forbidden to do. The Nazis were in power and Lisa Platt was scared. Her father knew they had to escape, and he left for America in the middle of the night. He promised to send for Lisa, her mother, and her two sisters when there was enough money. Until then, they were to live in Switzerland waiting. And with the waiting, came hardship none of them could ever have imagined. Paperback and unabridged, 150 pages, for ages 10 and up.

The Chosen
This is the classic story of two fathers and two sons and the pressures on them to pursue the religion they share in the way that is best suited to each. And as the boys grow into young men, they discover in the other a lost spiritual brother, and a link to an unexplored world that neither had ever considered before. A life-changing book! Paperback, 304 pages.

The Hiding Place
Corrie Ten Boom and her family became leaders in the Dutch Underground during the Nazi invasion of Holland, hiding Jewish people in their home and aiding their escape. Christ's teachings were their guide and inspiration. A classic that I highly recommend! Paperback and unabridged, 241 pages, for ages teen through adult.

The Giver
In a world with no poverty, no crime, no sickness and no unemployment, and where every family is happy, 12-year-old Jonas is chosen to be the community's "Receiver of Memories". Discovering the disturbing truth about his utopian world, he struggles against the weight of its hypocrisy. A glimpse into a future world in which the government controls everything, even memories and emotion. You won't forget this book! Paperback and unabridged, 208 pages.

7th and 8th Grade Economics/US Civics Kit  You'll be delighted with this fun approach to learning about economics!

Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?
Here's an entertaining introduction to economics that is guaranteed to keep your children interested! Written as a series of letters from Uncle Eric, this book presents easy-to-understand basics of our free enterprise system. Learn such tidbits as why coins are ribbed on the edge (so you cant slice off a wee piece to make gold and silver coins weigh less, which was a common deceit), why the gold standard is a thing of the past, how federal debt works, and why we can never catch up. Also covers topics such as the origin and history of money, the history of our dollar, the economic behavior of the government, the business cycle, inflation, recession, depression, foreign currency, how and why the government impacts the value of money, and the wisdom and pitfalls of investing. That description may sound boring, but the book is definitely not! Grades 5-adult. Paperback, 125 pages.

Penny Candy Economics Companion Course
This book will turn the study of Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? into a great economics course for children. Includes comprehension questions, vocabulary words, research, and application exercises. Additional recommendations for further study are given in the form of web sites to research, books to read, and movies and documentaries to watch to enhance the understanding of economics. Book also contains a final test, essay, answer key, and additional reading articles. Its time we understood the economy! Paperback, 125 pages, for ages 11-16 years.

Whatever Happened to Justice?
This insightfully clear description of common law, justice, and economics is so helpful in a day when our legal system is no longer always judging right from wrong. The principles so lucidly taught in this book are completely in harmony with the views of the Founding Fathers. Written as letters that answer questions, the author tells how common law in this country was founded. Common law judges formed laws, for example: 1) Do all you have agreed to do and, 2) Do not encroach on other persons or their property. An interesting note those who didn't comply and were found to be outside the law, had no protection by the common law, and came to be known as outlaws, The description of those persons who had decided to be an outlaw would be widely publicized. Then anyone could hunt them down and enslave them, or kill them; it was all outside the courts business, the outlaw had made his choice. Includes many interesting descriptions. This book helps us return to our roots and examine the foundations on which our beliefs and actions are based. Paperback, 254 pages, for grade 5 and up.

Land of Fair Play
Want to give your child an old and refreshing look at why America is so successful? The Land of Fair Play teaches clearly the theory and practice of American government based on the Christian values of the Founding Fathers. Covers all aspects of the laws of freedom and "fair play" in America, the Constitution, duties of Americans, the three branches of the federal government, the state governments, political parties, elections, taxation and more. I really like the spotlights on some of our Founding Fathers such as George Washington, Noah Webster, James Madison, and Samuel Adams. Questions are included at the end of each chapter and an excellent appendix and index for reports and assignments is included. (Note: on page 167 you will find some derogatory information about Thomas Jefferson. I simply eliminate this page, and still find the book to be quite worthwhile.) A good and economical civics course for 11-13 year olds. Paperback, 180 pages, black & white illustrations.

Teen/Adult Economics/US Civics Kit  Learn how America works with this essential library for teens through adults.

5000 Year Leap
The industrial revolution thrust mankind ahead 5,000 years! For most of the earth's history, man has lived basically under the same primitive conditions. Suddenly, in an element of free enterprise, advancements were made that drastically changed man from the farmer to the space explorer. But there was hardly a single idea that the American Founding Fathers put into their plan that hadn't been thought of before. When the Constitution was being written, none of those ideas were really being practiced anywhere in the world. It was in America that true freedom was born, based on 28 principles endorsed by the Founding Fathers. These principles and their influence on the world caused a great forward leap in technology. These were ideas such as 1) the proper role of government is to protect equal rights not to provide equal things and 2) a free people will not survive unless they stay strong. This inspiring book contains a chapter discussion on each of the 28 principles of freedom. Paperback, 337 pages. Black-and-white illustrations.

The Making of America
I have never found a more sound and more inspiring explanation of the Constitution and American government than W. Cleon Skousen's classic volume. We have often marveled at the incredible insights into our God-given form of government. The first 1/3 of the book relates history of the time that led up to the Constitution, treating the Founding Fathers with utmost respect. The remainder of the book examines the Constitution in detail. Passages from the writings of Americas founders explain their intent with each clause in the Constitution. Since being well versed in the Constitution is our only hope of protecting our freedom, I believe that every family needs to learn it the best they can. Teen/adult reading level. Hardcover, 888 pages. A classic!

American Government and US Constitution
Study Course

This helpful study guide provides a fill-in-the-blank, question and answer approach to studying American government and the Constitution, using well-respected Constitution authority W. Cleon Skousen's books The 5000 Year Leap and The Making of America. Can be used as either a personal study syllabus or as a guide for family discussions. The materials will help you gain an in-depth understanding of how the Founding Fathers discovered our inspired system of self-government, what the actual text of the Constitution truly means, and how to view important current events from a constitutional perspective. Originally written to be used in once-a-month neighborhood meetings, each lesson gives the reading assignments and then asks 20 questions, leaving space to write in the answers. Teen/adult level. 68 pages in binder.

A More Perfect Union DVD: America Becomes a Nation
Yearn with the founders, as America struggles, sometimes falteringly, to became a nation. Filmed on location at Independence Hall, Williamsburg, etc. A handful of brilliant men—James Madison, George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin—lead a political battle to create a new, unique form of government, one that will establish a standard of self-government for the world. For ages 10 and up. This 70-minute film is a prize-winning production that we highly recommend!

The Law
This basic book on the proper role of government by Frederic Bastiat was first written in 1850. The principles of government in this timeless book are universal, and should be understood by every freedom lover. This is logical and easy reading, great for teens and adults. Paperback, 75 pages.

The US Constitution For Everyone
I raised my teens with this excellent book that helps everyone understand our precious constitution! Learn the fascinating story of how our Founders wrote our nation's basic laws and principles. I was particularly taken by the rough drafts (with many cross-outs and corrections) that elucidate each document plus details about the signers. Paperback, 108 pages (Declaration) and 64 pages (Constitution) for ages 12 and up.

Learn to Cook and Sew with a Home Economics Course

It hasn't been too long ago when nearly every girl could cook and sew. Nowadays, a girl with domestic skills seems to be the exception rather than the rule. But the homemaking skills are so essential: everyone has to eat and wear clothes daily! Home life's joys depend in part on these skills. This homemaking course is just the thing I was seeking for our daughters, 12 years and up. Ten write-in workbooks teach, tutor through projects, and test the home skills needed to be a good wife and mother. Basic sewing, using the sewing machine, creating clothing, basic nutrition, shopping techniques, food preparation and cooking, housekeeping, home decorating, tidiness, child care and development are covered in depth. The final workbook contains guidance in becoming a godly woman, understanding herself, God's plan for her body, single-hood, and Christian courtship. This course from the Mennonites contains conservative Biblical doctrine. Ten large-size workbooks, slipcased, illustrated throughout.

Smart Medicine for Healthier Living

This is the book for safe and effective home treatment of your family's ills. What I like so much about it is that it describes the symptoms and details of the illness so that you can self-diagnose. Then it covers all treatments available, starting with what a doctor would do (including which prescription drugs are best for the ailment). Then alternative remedies are recommended with their dosages: herbs, supplements, homeopathic, acupressure, diet and other natural means. When I look something up in this useful guidebook, I feel like I have the whole picture and can make a wise, informed decision. Co-written by a medical doctor, a pharmacist and a naturopath. Hi!

I am Diane Hopkins, mother of 7 children (ages 14 to 34) whom I have had the privilege of homeschooling over the past 23 years. I'm a mom, just like you, and have those fabulous days and those not-so-good days like we all do. My hope in writing is to share experiences, and hopefully we can encourage one another in this wonderful, intense adventure of childraising--that is really what homeschooling is, after all.

Hoping to help, if I can!

Love, Diane
