view | Uncle Arthur Storytime Books: Teach Character with Bedtime Stories! 44% OffEverybody loves a story! Evenings at my house are time for read-aloud, and my children's favorite stories have always been Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories. These charming, old-fashioned stories have incredible appeal because they are true! These tales really happened, and they sometimes turn out disastrously! Each story is just a few pages long, so it is easy to sneak one in here and there in a busy schedule.
The five-volume set has a publication date of 1976, and it is actually a collection of the best stories found in the 1964 version, so you know old-fashioned Christian values are alive and well. In addition to the real stories about real children, each book has a story from the Bible. Each book has 192 pages, a glossy picture cover, and wonderful color drawings throughout. The very best thing about these stories is that they speak right to a child's heart! I read my daughter Louisa the story "Two Carolines," a story about a little girl who was very pleasant and lovable when out of the house but not very happy to those at home. A day later, Louisa came to me to confess, "I am like that story, Mom." The best part was that I never said one word! I read the story out loud, then Louisa saw herself in it and strived to correct her own behavior. Ooh, hard to beat that kind of powerful teaching—teaching through parables!
One of the stories my grown children remember best is "The Hollow Pie." Seems a certain young man always grabbed the biggest piece for himself rather than watching out for others and saying, "You go first." After a very disappointing dinner, one very sorry boy learned that maybe the biggest isn't always the best!
If a set will bless the whole family for years to come, this is it! As always, your satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed.
Note: additional shipping required outside of the 48 states. Does not qualify for "Just One Item" shipping.

view | Book of Hair 10% OffElegant, sophisticated, lovely hairdos for young women and their mothers—that is what this book contains! The color photography is gorgeous and the hair styles are feminine and flattering. I realized after seeing this pretty volume that most hair styling books I've encountered show hairdos that are extreme, faddish, ultra-mod and totally impractical. Not so with this beautiful book! Complete details are shown to create each hairstyle. Of course, you need some hair, at least shoulder length, to make into the unusual braids, French twists, French braid, herringbone, rolls, twists and buns-31 styles in all. Wirebound, cardstock, 72 pages. Comes with 3 pretty scrunchies in a plastic snap case. A very popular gift for young women.

For Moms
view | Whole Foods for the Whole Family La Leche League (the breast-feeding moms' group) did what it takes a lifetime to do—gather recipes from mothers all over the nation who have converted over to whole foods (meaning whole grains rather than refined flours, and honey or fruit sweeteners instead of sugar). My copy of this excellent cookbook is bedraggled and beloved. Now, it has been printed with a hard cover and large spiral binding so yours won't wear out like mine did! All 900 recipes have passed the taste test and are wholesome and nutritious. Quick and complete, make-it-from-scratch instructions make this valuable indeed. This book's "Making Your Own" section taught me how to make my own cream of mushroom soup, granola, enchilada sauce, and buttermilk. Instructions are also given on how to cook all the grains and beans, and what to serve them with to create a protein complement. Besides your normal cookbook sections of breads, main dishes (meat and meatless), and desserts, wonderful information is also included on breakfasts, lunch recipes, baby's first foods, non-allergenic recipes, sprouting, and using natural food dyes for Easter eggs or in cooking. I have often referred to the quick meals listed in the section entitled, "When It's 4 o'clock" to find out what I can scurry together for dinner. You will use it daily—one of my favorite cookbooks! 364 pages.
